Does Artwork Create a Bad Feng Shui Situation?

One of the many Feng Shui classes I’ve taken warned us about artwork creating a bad Feng Shui situation. No headless people, no single self Portraits(especially if you want a relationship) and avoid abstract art.

I’ve since learned that having art you love does not create bad Feng Shui… unless it’s artwork of you on a killing spree!

The important thing about art is to have art you really love; not putting up pieces people gave you because you feel you have to.

Full disclosure: The art you choose to display does reveal plenty to the Feng Shui master about your personality and, subsequently, potential challenges you may face during your life.

The exception to hanging art is to avoid putting things directly over your head where you sleep. The more active the art, the less restful sleep you may experience. Crashing waves and oceans could make for a restless night.

The street art above is in the town of Carlisle, PA. Get your wings!

The Eye Has It

Choosing art for your home
In Feng Shui, sometimes the cure is worse than the ailment. When we Feng Shui our space, we are told to balance elements, add colors, pay attention to what we put on our walls. Being an Art History major, I love to see art in a home and see what people like to choose to decorate their space. That said, your choice could be extreme and down right uncomfortable! This is an installation in downtown Dallas, The Eye.
Too big to fit in my house, it is compelling and a little (a lot) intimidating.
Choose art for your home that speaks to you but doesn’t overwhelm the space or you and your guests.

This is art, this is light!

This art installation is from one of my manufacturers, PureEdge Lighting at a lighting show I recently attended in Chicago. I love it because it captures the essence of everything that we aspire to in Feng Shui.
Feng Shui is about movement, balance and balancing the flow of energy in a space, but relies on one’s own energy and drive to understand and accept one’s self and to thrive. And live. And dance through life. This is art, this is light!
